Ask a Sacramento Plumber: Why Switching to Tankless Will Benefit Your Home

Published on January 16, 2014

An Energy Efficient and Costly Way to Heat Your Water

Water heaters are one of those household appliances you may not think too much about unless, of course, something goes wrong with it. When you reach the point in your life as a homeowner that you have to replace your water heater, you may be inclined to choose a system similar to the one you already have because, well, change can be scary. At Boyd Plumbing, however, we are here to get you to change your mind. If you are on the look out to replace your tank, it would be wise to consider switching from a traditional unit to a tankless unit. And here’s why.

Traditional vs. Tankless

  1. You’ll never have cold water interrupting a hot shower: Because cold water passes over a heating element before it reaches the outlet, you’ll never have to worry about cold water getting into the hot water stream. Tankless water heaters may not store hot water all the time, but that doesn’t mean your water won’t be hot.
  2. They are less expensive: Tankless water heaters can save you up to 20% on your energy bills and, really, who wouldn’t want that? Because tankless systems don’t store hot water, you aren’t paying to have the system operating all the time. Traditional water heaters heat the water 24 hours a day, significantly increasing your water bills.
  3. You will never have a shortage of water: Let’s look at it like this – a 40 gallon tanked water heater stores exactly 40 gallons of water. Once that 40 gallons is used up, it has to be reheated which could take up to 30 minutes. On the other hand, a tankless water heater heats water as its being used so it will be readily available each and every time you need it.
  4. Adjustable thermostats: Your water temperature with a tankless will be as hot as you want it to be.
  5. They are way more efficient: Tankless water heaters use clean energy at minimal use; they don’t waste energy; and they will always provide you and your family with hot water for every day use.

Still thinking of keeping your traditional tanked water heater? We didn’t think so. Call Boyd Plumbing today for questions on tankless water heaters, or to schedule a consultation!
