Faulty Pilot Light One Common Problem Water Heaters Experience

A customer called because the pilot light on his hot water tank was not staying on. He said for a the past few days he had to light it every time he wanted to use it and it would always go out soon after.

Having a water heater that’s broken is a real nuisance – mainly because no one likes to be without hot water. But having a faulty pilot light is only one of the things that can go wrong with your water heater over time. Here are some of the other common water heater problems you should be aware of:

  1. While having no hot water is an obvious sign something is wrong, so is having scalding hot water or inconsistent water temperature.
  2. If you water heater tank is leaking, that’s a big problem and unfortunately that will mean you need to get a replacement.
  3. Having rust colored water and/or smelling something similar to a rotten egg
  4. If you hear a low rumbling or popping noise and/or a high pitched whining
