Water Heater Replacement in Sacramento

Published on November 18, 2013

Ask a Sacramento Plumber:  What Factors Should I Consider When Choosing a New Water Heater?

If you are having problems with your water heater, such as a leak at the base of the tank or a lack of hot water, then you should seriously consider purchasing a new one. Here are some of the considerations that you should take into account before deciding on your new model:

  1. First, make sure that your old water heater cannot be repaired. If it has a leaking valve or a bad heating element, then you may be able to have it fixed. If the tank has corroded, however, you’ll need a new system.
  2. If a replacement is necessary, measure the area in which your new model will sit. New models can have as much as four inches more circumference than older units with the same capacity, so make sure your new water heater will fit.
  3. Check the First Hour Rating of all the models that you are considering. This is the amount of hot water that will be available for one hour of use. You’ll want to make sure that your new unit will be able to provide the hot water you need during peak usage. This is especially important if you have multiple family members that tend to take showers at the same time.

Call Boyd Plumbing today and we can help you choose the right water heater for your needs and also install it for you.
